Tegre was engaged to provide engineering, design, procurement and construction management support for a refinery upgrade in Hawaii, focused on increasing overhead vapor compression capacity and improving overall system performance. Tegre is providing EPCM services to integrate a new skid-mounted compressor package into an existing operating facility.
The compressor system includes the compressor and all associated equipment and instrumentation. Tegre’s scope includes the design and implementation of all off-skid infrastructure required to integrate the new system with existing and upgraded refinery units. Existing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) are being updated and revised to reflect project modifications.
Key scope elements include piping and mechanical tie-ins, civil site development, structural foundations and supports, electrical power distribution, and instrumentation and control system integration. All engineering deliverables are developed under controlled revision and progress through Issued for Construction (IFC) as the design advances.
Project Objective
Increase crude overhead vapor compression capacity to remove an existing processing bottleneck and improve refinery throughput, operability, and reliability, while integrating new equipment with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
Project Description
The existing overhead compression system consists of two two-stage electric compressors with a combined capacity of approximately 2.5 MMSCFD. This project adds one new two-stage electric compressor, rated at approximately 400 HP, operating in parallel with the existing units. Upon completion, total system capacity is expected to increase by approximately 1.2 MMSCFD, resulting in a combined capacity of approximately 3.7 MMSCFD.
Execution is planned in two phases:
Phase 1 – Turnaround: Installation of piping and electrical tie-ins, along with relocation of existing control panels, during a scheduled facility turnaround.
Phase 2 – Post-Turnaround Execution: Installation and commissioning of the vendor-supplied compressor package and completion of remaining civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems required for full integration.
